Hi, my name is Jon McKenzie and I am the founder of Pet Idol. My aim is to bring joy and delight to pet owners with music that is truly unique and special.

Let’s call it Pet-Powered Pop!

It all started in 2021 when I produced a novelty album called Pet Soundz. I needed something fun and a bit silly to work on to relieve Lockdown stress. So I recorded my cat, Randall, and composed a song featuring his meows and squeaks. I even worked the sound of him scratching the sofa into the percussion.

I enjoyed making that track so much that I approached friends and family for more audio snippets of their animals. I ended up with samples from a host of household pets including cats, dogs, Guinea pigs, and even an African grey parrot – which provided lyrics.

Pet Soundz

Pet Soundz was the first “proper” album I released so, despite the playful concept, I took the process very seriously. It has sat quietly on streaming platforms giving the occasional listener a giggle. Beyond that I thought the project was just a fond memory.

That was until Summer 2025 when I showed it to two different friends who work in the entertainment industry. One a music producer, one a talent agent. They both had a lot to say but the message was pretty much:

“MAKE THIS A BUSINESS”

So here it is. The Pet Soundz concept under a new name, offering pet owners everywhere the chance to have their beloved creatures feature in a piece of music that’s as unique as their pet.
